Persephone’s Advent

We are crafting this month’s cocktail series with a handmade ‘shrub’, also known as ‘drinking vinegar’. This unique ingredient originated in the colonial era as a byproduct of preservation methods that were used prior to modern refrigeration!

We are showcasing three very different styles in this limited release:

• Our Proper Version is the standard recipe for this month

• An Elevated Version uses advanced techniques and a commonly found perishable ingredient that we are unable to safely provide

• A Modified Version uses some of the ingredients from the proper version, but changes up the recipe and technique to create a completely different cocktail experience

Each crate provides ingredients for a total of 4 cocktails with the spirits provided from our partners at La Bodega. We throw in a little extra of our handcrafted mixers, just in case you want to experiment and make a few more cocktails…

Cocktail styles: This month’s cocktail series features a refreshing cocktail with a build unique to the application of the shrub ingredient, an egg white cocktail that harkens back to 50’s era soda fountains, as well as a unique riff on the classic Manhattan structure!

Flavor profile: Though the idea of vinegar in a cocktail may cause some to second guess our sanity, the application in the shrub style combined with the seasonal fall fruit flavors and herbal notes creates a very unique and bright flavor in each style of cocktail.

Spirit Base: This cocktail series uses whiskey and a bitter herbal amaro at its base to enhance the cocktail with vegetal and agave notes that give the cocktails balance and character

Bartender techniques: The three separate techniques to craft three unique cocktails! We are using a throw technique for our Proper version, a dry shake technique for our Elevated version, and a classic stir method for the Modified version!

Final thoughts…

We designed this cocktail specifically with whiskey in mind! However, as with all spirits, that may not be someone’s individual preference. This cocktail would also work incredibly well with a blackstrap style rum if you want to experiment with a different spirit base!
